— Two banks, five miles

Shakopee is closer than the river makes it look.

Shakopee and Chaska sit on opposite banks of the Minnesota River, facing each other across a valley wide enough that for most of a century the two towns behaved like separate propositions. On a map that still reads as a barrier. In a car it is a bridge, and the whole thing takes eleven minutes.

From downtown Shakopee to our front door is 5.2 miles. That is a shorter trip than a good many people already make for groceries, and it ends at a studio that publishes every price it charges, takes walk-ins whenever a therapist is free, and is still open at nine o'clock at night.

We are at 150 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318, in the Chaska Commons retail centre at the corner of Hwy 41 and Pioneer Trail — CSAH 14. Free surface parking directly in front of the door, accessible spaces at the entrance, and no toll, ramp or meter anywhere in the trip.

— Canterbury, Valleyfair, downtown

Drive times from your side of the river.

The route is the same from every row below: Hwy 41 north over the Chaska Bridge, stay with it as it becomes Hazeltine Boulevard, stop at the first major light. That light is Pioneer Trail and we are on the corner. Distances are measured door to door rather than city centre to city centre.

  • Off-peak is most of our day. We open at 9 AM, and the last hours of the evening are usually the clearest drive you will get.
  • Coming from Savage or Prior Lake you are on the road longer, but the last stretch is identical: Hwy 41 north, over the river, first major corner.

Measured road distances to our door; times are off-peak estimates rather than guarantees. What actually moves these numbers is the Shakopee end, not ours — a race day at Canterbury or closing time at Valleyfair puts far more traffic on your side of the bridge than anything happening on the Chaska side.

— Chaska, not Shakopee

We are not in Shakopee. We are eleven minutes away.

Day Massage has one studio and it is at 150 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318, about 11 minutes from downtown Shakopee. If what you need is a therapist inside Shakopee city limits, we are not that, and no amount of page-writing changes it.

Shakopee has massage options of its own — a town that size always does, and some of them are certainly very good. Here is the only comparison we will make, and it is one you can check yourself in about ninety seconds: try to find online what any of them charges for a 60-minute massage, and what time they close on a Sunday. Price and hours are the two things every single person wants to know before booking, and they are reliably the two hardest things to find.

Ours are on this page and on the full price list. $80 for 60 minutes of oil massage. Open until 9 PM every day of the week, Sunday included. Walk-ins taken whenever a therapist is free. No membership, no packages, no autopay, nothing to cancel later — and if you want that argument set out properly against the membership model, our Chanhassen page does it line by line.

Eleven minutes is what all of that costs you. We think it is a fair trade. If you decide it is not, that is a completely reasonable conclusion and we hope you find someone good on your own side of the river.

— One trip, not two

The massage stops being a separate errand.

Chaska Commons is a strip retail centre and ours is one of the smaller doors in it, so here is what to look for. Caribou Coffee is 59 feet from our door and is what most people actually navigate by. CA Nails is 45 feet the other way, Nautical Bowls 39, India Bar and Grill 110. Across the lot: Culver's at 400 feet, Home Depot 609, Cub Foods 614, Target 936.

That list is not padding. It is a large part of why people cross the river for this rather than book closer to home. If you are already coming over for Target, or Cub, or a sheet of plywood, the massage is not a second trip — it is the thing you do in the middle of the first one. Book the 60-minute session, put the shopping either side of it, and the eleven minutes quietly stops counting.

You park once. Every door in that list is on the same lot, and none of it involves finding the car again.

— Oil, combo, feet

What to book, briefly.

Three things cover most of what comes over the bridge, and all three are priced below: the 60-minute oil massage at $80, Swedish or deep tissue and decided on the table rather than at booking; the combo, which splits the session between the table and the chair, from $65; and reflexology, seated and fully clothed, from $55. Thirty minutes of oil massage is $55 if the evening is short, and $120 or $160 if it is not. The full menu carries the rest — futon (Thai), cupping, prenatal, four hands — with every length and every price printed, and the reflexology page walks through how to choose between the three, if you want that settled before you arrive.

— Four lanes over the river

The crossing is the whole argument.

Strip this page back and one piece of concrete is holding it up. MN Highway 41 crosses the Minnesota River on the Chaska Bridge — four lanes, open since July 2007 — and that crossing is the only reason a Carver County studio can honestly call itself Shakopee's nearest real option. Before it, the river did what rivers do: it made five miles behave like fifteen.

The four lanes matter more than the mileage. A two-lane crossing stacks up behind one left-turning truck; four lanes with a signal at either end mostly do not. That is why the trip is eleven minutes at two in the afternoon and only a few minutes worse at six, and why it is not the kind of crossing you build an evening around.

It also runs the other way, which is the part people forget. A day at Valleyfair ends with two adults who have been upright since ten in the morning. An evening at Canterbury ends whenever it ends. Both of those finish on your side of the water with a bridge between you and a table — and it is a short, uncomplicated thing to drive, provided you set off before we shut at nine.

So: 150 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318, in Chaska Commons on the Hwy 41 and Pioneer Trail corner, free parking at the door. Open Monday to Saturday 9 AM to 9 PM and Sunday 9:30 AM to 9 PM. Walk in whenever a therapist is free, or take a slot before you set off — five miles is not far, but it is far enough to be irritating to drive twice. Call or text (612) 600-9298 and the desk will tell you what is open in the next hour. And if there are two of you, the couples room has to be reserved: one room, two tables, and it cannot be conjured up at the door.

Questions we get
most often.

Still unsure? Call (612) 600-9298 — someone at the front desk will actually pick up.

Do you have a location in Shakopee?

No. We have one studio, at 150 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318 — about 5.2 miles and 11 minutes from downtown Shakopee over the Hwy 41 bridge. Anything that lists us inside Shakopee city limits is wrong.

How long does the drive from Shakopee really take?

About 11 minutes off-peak from downtown Shakopee, a few minutes more from Canterbury Park or Valleyfair. It is one road the whole way: Hwy 41 north over the bridge to the first major light. There is no toll on the route and no parking to hunt for at our end.

Is the Hwy 41 bridge bad at rush hour?

Not badly. It is a four-lane crossing with a signal at either end, so it does not queue the way the old two-lane river crossings did — figure a few minutes on top of the eleven between about 4:30 and 6:00 rather than a different kind of journey. Race days at Canterbury and closing time at Valleyfair move the Shakopee end of the trip far more than the bridge does.

Which way do I turn off the bridge?

You do not, really. Stay on Hwy 41 north as it becomes Hazeltine Boulevard and stop at the first major light, which is Pioneer Trail. We are on that corner at 150 Pioneer Trail, Chaska, MN 55318, in the Chaska Commons retail centre, with free surface parking directly in front of the door.

Do I need an appointment, or can I walk in?

Both work. Day Massage takes walk-ins whenever a therapist is free, which is a large part of why people come to us instead of an appointment-only chain. That said, evenings and weekends do fill up — if you want a specific time, a specific length, or the couples room, book ahead online or call (612) 600-9298.

Which massage should I book if I'm not sure?

For most first-timers, a 60-minute oil massage ($80) is the right call — your therapist can work Swedish-light or deep-tissue-firm within the same session depending on what your body wants that day. If your feet are the problem, book reflexology. If you want to stay clothed and be stretched rather than rubbed, book the futon (Thai) session.

— Background reading

Massage is one of the oldest forms of self-care, and what we do is squarely on the relaxation side of it. We make no medical claims — for neutral, non-promotional background, read the NCCIH on massage therapy , what the science actually says , relaxation techniques and the AMTA on massage and wellness .

Those are general educational references about the practice, not statements about any particular session here.

Day Massage is a relaxation and wellness studio, not a medical provider. Nothing here is medical advice — if something hurts in a way that worries you, see a clinician.
